Star Bikers - The Next Generation

The "Star Bikers" club of today is still going strong, We are now the next generation of the club which now dedicate our time to one thing .... raising money for charity & making sure you have the best biking fun while we do. Although we no longer strictly class ourselves as the Star bikers club of old, we are a direct follow on group, with the aim of continuing the charity tradition.

We (as in the charity committee) are now simply known as "Stoke on Trent Bikers" (Others claim to be us - but they are not, despite what you hear) & we run the Star bikers motorcycle charity as it was decided to rename the events back to the original traditional name recently so we can keep the traditional charity name going. The original Star bikers club has now been disbanded into other local bike clubs, although the club of today is no longer strictly a club, but is now what started out as & still comprises of a committee group of members from each of the other clubs which the original star bikers club was disbanded into. The Star Bikers club & the Stoke on Trent bikers are comprised of the same team of individuals but are run separately with members doing different roles. We still meet regularly but we are maybe not quite the same idea of the the MCC you may of been involved with back in the 70's & 80's when the club was at it’s peak.

We meet each week to discuss plans for the Egg & Toy run events all throughout the year in preparation for not just the next run we organise but all future events & deciding who benefits from the charity.

Most importantly we would like to mention YOU as without the support of the general public & also the group of individuals who marshal the runs, the current & all the previous Lord Mayor's of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire Police, the other local bike clubs who get involved & all the other people who help us to get the event off the ground. Without their support the run would never go ahead.

If you would like to attend one of our weekly meetings you are very welcome to do so, if you wish to see what happens or even to share some ideas.. Contact us in the usual way if you wish to attend.

The Star Hotel, Marsh Street, Hanley.
The now historic meeting place of the original Star Bikers.
Once just known as the Star public house.

Webmaster’s note.

I myself only started to do the runs as a rider back in 1989 so I have only picked a lot of this information up from other sources. You may have information or knowledge of the run that we could find useful that we have missed out on.
(Ian Maddock (webmaster))

Were you involved on the 1st run back in 1978? Did you used to work in the Penkhull homes & remember seeing the bikes turn up?
If you have your own special version of the history of the last 25+ years & you think that you would like to write a column for the site, please email it to us.

So what is a “Run”?
